About the Event

**This event is limited to 70 participants**

Innovating & Inspiring, this externship offers a unique opportunity to incorporate key insights from Dr. Sue Johnson & Kenny Sanderfer's recent book Created for Connection, a hands-on resource designed for Christian couples.

Led by ICEEFT-Certified Trainers, Gail Palmer & Kenny Sanderfer; assisted by Trainer-in-Training, Teri Murphy, this event is a total of 4 days, presented over the course of two weekends:  February 12-13 & February 19-20, 2021.  We will meet from 9am - 4pm CST each day, with an hour lunch break.

Participants will:

  • Learn primary EFT concepts on attachment & emotion theory.
  • Identify EFT stages, steps, & interventions.
  • Practice EFT interventions used to promote de-escalation & restructuring relationships.
  • Explore the process of creating emotional bonds through corrective emotional experience.
  • Examine EFT concepts & practices and their value to couples. 

The Externship is approved by the International Centre for Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT) and provides the first level of training required for certification as an Emotionally Focused Therapist.  

Meet your instructors:

GAIL PALMER, RMFT, MSW

Certified EFT Therapist, Supervisor & Trainer

Gail is one of the Founding Members of the Ottawa Couple and Family Institute and Co-Director of the International Center of Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy. She holds a Masters degree in Social Work and is a Registered Marriage and Family Therapist in Canada. Over the past 30 years, Gail has worked closely with Dr Sue Johnson, creator of Emotionally Focused Therapy, and is an experienced supervisor and trainer in EFT. She currently offers workshops, externships and core skills trainings to mental health professionals in a variety of different settings across the world. She chairs the ICEEFT Education Committee and is responsible for mentoring and training EFT trainers internationally. Gail is an adjunct faculty member at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Canada and a sessional lecturer at Oxford University, Oxford, England.

Gail has a particular interest in applying the model with work with families. For the past decade, Gail has been one of the lead EFT trainers who have developed and expanded on Sue Johnson’s EFFT method as described in Johnson, S.M. (2004) The Practice of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy: Creating Connection. New York, NY: Brunner Routledge. This work has included EFFT trainings across North America, Europe and Australia/New Zealand, presentations at EFT summits, workshops at the Networker and AAMFT, publications in the EFFT workbook and casebook, articles in professional journals and the ICEEFT newsletter. Professionally, Gail’s primary passion is to help therapists who are both new to EFT and trained in EFT, to bring the powerful interventions and skills of this model to the family therapy room.

KENNETH SANDERFER, LMFT

Certified EFT Therapist, Supervisor & Trainer  *  AAMFT Approved Supervisor

As a Certified EFT Trainer, Kenny educates and trains EFT Therapists across several states. He is the founder and director of EFT Tennessee, Nashville's center for training in Emotionally Focused Therapy. He provides EFT supervision for therapists pursuing EFT certification. As a Certified EFT Therapist, he provides intensive two-day couples therapy in Murfreesboro, TN. He recently co-authored a book with Dr. Sue Johnson, Created for Connection: The Hold Me Tight Guide for Christian Couples .

Kenny completed his undergraduate degree in Agriculture from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. He completed his Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN, where he is now an Adjunct Professor. He is licensed by the state of Tennessee in Marital and Family Therapy (license #564) and is an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. When he is away from work you will find him fly fishing, training horses, ranching and spending time with his wife, Suzette and their five grand children.
